We will complete 11 years of Our Journey tomorrow. Sumi was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s on April 24, 2013 by her neurologist.
As we enter the 12th year of our Journey, Sumi has been able to maintain her routine. Hospice at-home is a blessing. Sumi gets a nurse visit on every Monday. A volunteer to sit with her, and a companion for me, on every Wednesday. And, on Thursdays, a music therapist and a social worker alternate.
She eats well, is regular and has maintained her weight. She does not exhibit anxiety or agitation. As her disease progresses, she keeps changing slowly and we, periodically, arrive and settle on a 'new normal'. Over the last six months she has stopped walking/pacing. Walking in general is good but comes with the risk of falling. So, when she stopped walking, at first, it was distressing but now I find that she is much safer.
Your wholehearted encouragement, support and kind words has endured me and provided an opportunity for self-healing, personal growth and has sustained me through some of the difficult patches of our Journey. Thank you for continue to travel with me in this Journey of ours.
